breakaway gap
A jump in price that leaves an empty space on the chart as price leaves a sideways zone, often with lots of trading.
The fuller meaning
A gap that carries price out of a range or pattern, often on heavy volume, and can start a new trend. Common gaps inside ranges are often filled soon, while breakaway gaps mark the start of a move; the type is often clear only afterwards.
