The message or question you type to an AI to tell it what you want.

The fuller meaning

The instruction given to an AI model. Good prompts state context, the task, limits and an output format, such as 'last 5 days, list swing highs and lows with prices, no forecasts, say if unsure, as a table'; asking it to explain its reasoning makes errors easier to spot.
