When price keeps making lower tops and lower bottoms, like walking down a staircase.
The fuller meaning
A sequence of lower highs and lower lows. It stays intact until price breaks above the most recent lower high, a break of structure; a line joining the falling highs is a downtrend line. Short setups taken with the trend usually have better odds.
