gap up

When price opens and stays above the last candle's highest price, leaving an empty space on the chart.

The fuller meaning

A gap in which a candle's low stays above the previous candle's high, often after good news released while the market was closed. Where it appears matters: inside a range it is often filled soon, while out of a range or mid-trend it can start or continue a move.
