gap

An empty space on a chart where price jumped from one candle to the next without trading in between.

The fuller meaning

Empty space between candles: a gap up when a candle's low stays above the previous high, a gap down in mirror. Gaps are common in stocks and futures because news arrives while the market is closed; crypto trades around the clock, so its spot charts rarely gap, while forex can gap over the weekend.
