The slower helper line on a 0 to 100 gauge of where price closed in its recent range. Crossing the fast line hints at turns.
The fuller meaning
%D is the stochastic oscillator's signal line: a short moving average of %K, typically 3 periods. Crosses of %K through %D, especially from above 80 or below 20, are read as momentum turns; the lessons treat them as clues that need price confirmation, because in strong trends the oscillator can stay extreme.
