sideways market
When price moves back and forth between a floor and a ceiling without going clearly up or down.
The fuller meaning
A market with neither higher highs and higher lows nor lower highs and lower lows, moving in a trading range between support and resistance. Moves toward the edges often turn back and trend signals give many false alarms; the longer a range lasts, the more attention its breakout gets.
