Bank of Japan
Japan's main bank for the whole country. It sets the basic cost of borrowing money in Japan, which can move the yen and Japanese shares.
The fuller meaning
Japan's central bank, which sets short-term interest rates and monetary policy. It holds Monetary Policy Meetings eight times a year, each over two days, and publishes the schedule in advance; its decisions and hints about future policy can move the yen, Japanese bonds and stocks.
