bond
A loan you give to a government or company. They pay you interest and give the money back later.
The fuller meaning
A debt security that pays interest and repays its face value at maturity. Bond prices move opposite to interest rates, so higher central bank rates tend to weigh on bond prices; the lessons trace how rate decisions ripple through currencies, bonds and stocks.
