cyclical
A kind of business that does great when the economy is booming and badly when it slows down.
The fuller meaning
Describes sectors and stocks whose profits closely follow the business cycle, rising strongly in expansions and falling hard in slowdowns, as opposed to defensive sectors. The lessons stress that these are tendencies, not rules.
