dividend yield

How much a company pays you each year for owning its share, compared with the share's price.

The fuller meaning

The yearly dividend per share divided by the share price, shown as a percentage. It helps compare income across stocks, but an unusually high yield can be a warning that the market expects the dividend to be cut.
