indicator

A helper line or bar drawn from past prices and trading, used to describe what price has been doing.

The fuller meaning

A calculation on past price and volume, such as a moving average, RSI, MACD, ATR or OBV. Indicators describe trend, momentum, volatility and volume; they lag price, disagree in different market conditions and all give false signals, so traders use one per job.
