results day

The day a company tells everyone how much money it made. Its share price can jump a lot that day.

The fuller meaning

The day a company reports quarterly results. Prices react to the surprise versus expectations plus any change in guidance, not to whether the numbers were good or bad; results often come out while the market is closed, so the reaction arrives as a gap at the next open.

results day, also called earnings day.
