Big news that is planned for a known date and time, like a results report or a bank meeting.

The fuller meaning

A market-moving event with a known date and time, such as CPI, jobs reports, central bank meetings or company results, listed on the economic calendar. Traders can cut size, close positions beforehand or wait for the first reaction to settle; options often get pricier before it.
