unscheduled event
Big surprise news that nobody knew was coming, like a sudden announcement, which can move prices fast.
The fuller meaning
A market-moving shock without a known date, such as sudden policy news, a company scandal or a crisis. Unlike scheduled events it cannot be avoided by timing, so the only protection is a position size that survives a gap past the stop.
