chart pattern
A shape that price draws on a chart, like a triangle or a double top, that hints what might happen next.
The fuller meaning
A recurring shape formed by swings of buying and selling, such as double tops, flags, triangles and head and shoulders. Reversal patterns hint at a turn and continuation patterns at a resumed trend. A pattern completes only on a close through its trigger line and gives probabilities, not promises.
