continuation pattern
A chart shape that shows a pause inside a steady move, after which the move often carries on the same way.
The fuller meaning
A pattern that forms as a pause within a trend and usually resolves in the trend's direction, such as bull and bear flags. Symmetrical triangles are often treated as continuation patterns but can break either way, so a pattern stays neutral until price closes outside its boundary.
