The middleman that stands between every buyer and seller and makes sure each side gets paid.
The fuller meaning
An organisation that stands between the two sides of exchange trades and guarantees settlement. For futures it marks positions to market every day, moving gains and losses between accounts and holding margin; Japan's securities clearing house keeps customer margin separate from its participants' own money.
