A raw material people use every day, like oil, gold or wheat, that is bought and sold in markets.
The fuller meaning
A raw or primary good, such as crude oil, gold or grains, traded mostly through futures contracts with set sizes and expiry dates. Prices are driven largely by supply and demand, including weekly inventory reports, and physically delivered contracts must be rolled before expiry.
