How much of something one trading contract covers, like 100 ounces of gold in one deal.
The fuller meaning
The quantity of the underlying covered by one futures or options contract, such as 100 troy ounces for a standard US gold future or 1,000 barrels for US crude oil. Contract size times price gives contract value, so a small price step can move a lot of money.
