demat account

An online account in India that holds your shares safely, like a bank account holds money.

The fuller meaning

The electronic account in which Indian investors hold shares, opened with a depository participant; the depositories are NSDL and CDSL. Most share trades settle T+1, when the shares reach the demat account.
