fractional share

A small piece of one share, so you can own part of an expensive share without buying a whole one.

The fuller meaning

A portion of a single share that some brokers let investors buy, common in the US, where you can also buy a single whole share. It lowers the minimum amount needed but does not change the risk per unit of money invested.
