long-term gain
Profit from selling something you kept for a long time, which is often taxed less than quick profits.
The fuller meaning
A capital gain on an asset held longer than a set holding period: more than one year for US assets and more than 12 months for listed shares in India. It is usually taxed at lower rates than short-term gains; rules change, so check current official guidance.
