pre-market

Trading that happens before the main market day starts, when fewer people are trading.

The fuller meaning

The US extended-hours session before the regular session opens at 9:30 New York time. Volume is thinner and spreads wider, and prices can react to overnight news before the open; treating pre-market prices as if they had main-session liquidity is a common mistake.
