regulator

The official referee of a market, who makes rules to keep trading fair and punishes cheaters.

The fuller meaning

A government agency that writes and enforces market rules and registers brokers and advisers: SEBI in India, the SEC, FINRA and CFTC in the US and the FSA in Japan, while the RBI oversees India's currency matters. Regulators publish warnings about unauthorised platforms and scams.
