SEC

The US government group that watches over the share markets to keep them fair.

The fuller meaning

The US Securities and Exchange Commission, which oversees securities markets, while FINRA oversees brokers and the CFTC futures. Crypto trading platforms are generally not registered with it and lack registered brokers' protections; it also publishes investor bulletins, such as on options risks.
