settlement

When a trade is finished: the shares arrive in your account and the money leaves, a day or two after you trade.

The fuller meaning

The final exchange of cash and securities after a trade. US and Indian cash shares settle T+1, Japan T+2, and India offers an optional T+0 cycle for some shares; futures settle by cash or physical delivery at expiry.
