One small piece of a company that you can own. Owning a share means you own a tiny part of that business.

The fuller meaning

A unit of ownership in a company. Its price and the business's value can drift apart for years; in India's cash market and in the US you can buy a single share, many US brokers offer fractions, and Tokyo shares usually trade in units of 100.
