stop order
An order that waits and then sells or buys at the next available price once a set price is touched.
The fuller meaning
An order that becomes a market order when a trigger price is reached, used for stop-losses and breakout entries. It fills at the next available price, so in a gap it can fill far past the trigger: a stop is an order to get out, not a promise of the price you will get.
stop order.
