STT

A small tax India charges when people buy or sell certain shares and trading contracts.

The fuller meaning

India's Securities Transaction Tax, charged by the exchange on certain transactions, mainly in equity shares, equity derivatives and equity-oriented fund units. It is part of every Indian trade's cost stack with brokerage, the spread and exchange and regulatory fees.
