time zone
A region of the world that uses the same clock time. Markets open at different local times around the world.
The fuller meaning
A region sharing a standard clock offset from UTC. Market hours are quoted in local time, so traders convert opens, closes and data releases into one clock, such as UTC or their own time, and allow for daylight saving changes.
