Nifty 50

A list of 50 big Indian companies whose share prices are combined into one number to show how India's market is doing.

The fuller meaning

NSE's flagship index of 50 large Indian companies, owned and managed by NSE Indices Ltd. With the Sensex it is India's best-known index; India can halt trading when the Nifty 50 or Sensex moves 10%, 15% or 20%, and NSE lists Nifty options and futures.
