Sensex

A number made from the share prices of big Indian companies, used to show how India's market is doing.

The fuller meaning

BSE's benchmark index, run by BSE Index Services and, with the Nifty 50, India's best-known market measure. India can halt trading when the Nifty 50 or Sensex moves 10%, 15% or 20% in either direction.
