WTI crude oil
A popular kind of US oil whose price is followed around the world.
The fuller meaning
West Texas Intermediate, the benchmark US crude oil, traded mainly through futures; a standard US crude oil contract is 1,000 barrels and is physically delivered. In April 2020 an expiring WTI contract settled below zero, a reminder that futures near expiry carry risks of their own.
